E-BIKES: KNOW THE LAW 🚲⚖️ |
||
Electric bikes are becoming more popular but did you know they come with rules?
You can ride an electric bike (EAPC) without a licence or insurance if you're 14 or older—but only if it meets the rules:
✅ It must have pedals ✅ The motor must be no more than 250 watts ✅ No electric assist over 15.5mph ✅ Can be used on roads, cycle lanes & paths - NOT pavements)
❌ If it doesn’t meet these rules, it’s classed as a moped/motorbike and needs tax, insurance, and a licence.
👮♀️ It’s illegal to allow anyone under 14 to ride an e-bike on public roads. Parents or guardians could face prosecution under the Road Traffic Act 1988.
📢 Stay safe. Know the law. Ride responsibly 🚲 | ||
